MOTION NO. 186
MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe
That the Plan encourages and agrees to facilitate the enhancement of shopping and other services in the Square and its surrounds with a view to sustaining the long term viability of jobs in the area.
REPORT:
Tallaght is the County Town and the administrative capital of South Dublin County. Section 3.3.5 and policies TDL6, TDL7, TDL8 and TDL9 of the Draft Plan will encourage the continued growth and expansion of the County Town and facilitate measures to enhance the revitalisation and long term viability of Tallaght.
The promotion of Tallaght as a focus of city bound bus routes, the terminus of the Red Luas Line connecting Tallaght to Dublin City Centre, the roll out of Metro West as well as the support for the advancement of retail, sports and cultural activity will ensure that Tallaght will remain a vitalised and viable place to live, work, visit as well as shop.
The future of the County Town will be secured through the provision of the Tallaght Town Centre Local Area Plan (2006). The Local Area Plan will continue the augmentation of the retail provision within the town centre and to upgrade the existing retail component to ensure its competitiveness. It will continue to facilitate a layout which integrates streets, squares and parks as well as linkages and accessibility thereby creating desirable places to live and work. It will encourage a diverse range of land uses and identify a range of opportunities to intensify development in the town centre in accordance with local conditions and aspirations.
MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION:
No change required to the Draft Development Plan.
