MOTION NO. 77

MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe

That the Plan agrees to actively encourage and enhance current childcare and its affordability in the County with a view to doubling the availability of spaces in the County during the lifetime and existance of the Plan.

REPORT:

It is considered that the issue of the cost of childcare is not appropriate for the County Development Plan. The Council, having regard to national policy on childcare, will promote through the planning system an increase in the number of childcare places and facilities available in the County and will seek to improve the quality of childcare services for the community.

Through Policy SCR 20: Provision of Childcare Services in the County the Draft Development Plan seeks to support the South Dublin Childcare Committee, South Dublin Child Services Committee and the Childhood Development Initiative- Tallaght West in their aims to improve the provision of childcare and child services in the county.

Manager’s Recommendation:

It is recommended that the motion is not adopted.
