MEETING OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING

MOTION NO. 118

MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe

That the Plan will take cognisance of the age group currently living in many rural areas of the Council and will encourage greater public transport links in the County.

REPORT:

It is the policy of the Council to develop links to and within rural parts of the County that would promote use of a frequent, accessible, reliable and safe local public transport system and facilitate improved access to economic, educational and social activity within the County (Policy T8: Public Transport Links in Rural Areas).

 With respect to the possible positive environmental effects of the Motion, it is considered that this and other similar proposals can be advanced by way of the following  amendment.

 MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION:

Insert a new objective at the end of section 2.2.4 as follows:

“It is an objective of the Council to examine existing public transport links in the County with a view to promoting and facilitating improvements where feasible.”
