MEETING OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

MOTION NO. 178

MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe

That the Plan will encourage and facilitate steps or measures to enhance  the revitalisation and long term viability of Tallaght Village and end the proliferation of empty apartments in the immediate area.

REPORT:

Section 3.3.5 and policies TDL6, TDL7, TDL8 and TDL9 of the Draft Plan cover what is sought in the motion as they will encourage the continued growth and expansion of the County Town and facilitate measures to enhance the revitalisation and long term viability of Tallaght.

The promotion of Tallaght as a focus of city bound bus routes, the terminus of the Red Luas Line connecting Tallaght to Dublin City Centre, the roll out of Metro West as well as the support for the advancement of retail, sports and cultural activity will ensure that Tallaght will remain a vitalised and viable place to live, work and visit.

The future of the County Town will be secured through the provision of the Tallaght Town Centre Local Area Plan (2006).  The Local Area Plan will continue the augmentation of the retail provision within the town centre and to upgrade the existing retail component to ensure its competitiveness.  It will continue to facilitate a layout which integrates streets, squares and parks as well as linkages and accessibility thereby creating desirable places to live.

MANAGER’S RECOMMENDATION:

No change required to the Draft Development Plan.
