MOTION NO. 76

MOTION: Councillor C. Jones

That this Council adopt the policy of considering the provision of shared community and childcare facilities on sites made available to the Department of Education and Science for schools.

REPORT:

The Provision of Schools and the Planning System, A Code of Practise,(2008) sets out that in the location of Schools the Department of Education and Science will;

‘Consider the use of multi-campus schooling arrangements in appropriate cases, e.g. 2 or 3 schools side by side; a primary and a post-primary school sharing a site; schools anchoring wider social and community facilities required in the same area.’

The Draft Development Plan will seek to support and facilitate the Department of Education in their role as an education authority in the location of schools.

 Manager’s Recommendation:

 It is recommended that this Motion be adopted.
