COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING

MOTION NO. 217
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
That on page 210 – final paragraph the 1st line be deleted and that the Draft County Development Plan be amended accordingly.
REPORT:
Section 4.3.7.xii Policy LHA 14: Forestry states “It is the policy of the Council to facilitate the sustainable development of forestry in areas of the County where it will not have an adverse environmental impact, and where it will not detract from the recreational potential or the character of the Dublin Mountains Area or other High Amenity Zones”
The final paragraph states that “within areas designated as “Sensitive to Forestry” the Council shall, in assessing any forestry proposal, have regard to the likely impact on: views and prospects; visual amenity of landscape; existing residential amenity; impact on existing flora and fauna; impact on archaeological features; drainage; impact on water supply to reservoirs; water pollution; access and recreational potential.
It is considered that there is sufficient detail afforded to the assessment of forestry proposals in policy LHA 14, and that the final paragraph is specific to areas sensitive to forestry because there are parts of the County including open parts of the Dublin Mountains that would be more sensitive than others.
Manager’s Recommendation:
It is recommended that this motion is not adopted.
