QUESTION NO.23
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
To ask the Manager if, in the interests of democracy and transparency, he will consider live and archive "webcasting" of Council meetings, particularly given the free and easy-to-use options available online?
REPLY:
This Council is currently examining in-house webcasting possibilities which might be considered suitable for transmission of various Council events. In the current climate all financial and human resources requirements must be factored into considerations as well as other practical issues including those associated with live / delayed relay, editing etc.
It is intended to trial webcasting an upcoming autumn event, which will be evaluated and after such evaluation consideration may be given to webcasting of Council meetings.
Any formal decision to introduce webcasting of Council meetings or changes in meeting administration procedure could only be made following full debate and approval of the council at a future OP&F meeting.
