MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
That this Council affirms its determination to achieve fair treatment by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government in the allocation of finance from the Local Government Fund, requests the Manger to prepare a submission to the Minister presenting the case for South Dublin County Council to be treated in the same way as similar local authorities, including those in the greater Dublin Region, and to seek a meeting between the Manager and the Mayor, and the Minister, before preparatory work on the 2010 Council budget.

A letter highlighting the concerns of the members about the financial allocation to South Dublin County Council from the 2009 Local Government Fund was sent to the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government in February 2009. This correspondence and the subsequent acknowledgement from the Department are available on the attached links.

A recent letter was circulated by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government reducing the 2009 Local Government Fund allocation to South Dublin by €820,000 or 3.22%. This reduction has been applied across the board to all local authorities. This letter can be viewed on the attached link.
