Election of SPC Chairs - Designate

a)   Environment Strategic Policy Committee

b)  Housing and Social Development Strategic Policy Committee

c)  Sports, Recreation, Community Strategic Policy Committee

d)  Transportation Strategic Policy Committee

e)  Economic Development (including Planning and Development & Parks)  Strategic Policy Committee

f)  Arts, Culture, Gaeilge, Education and Libraries Strategic Policy Committee

* The SPC Chairs serve on the Corporate Policy Group with the Mayor and the Manager

Report:

The appointment of 6members to be Chairpersons of the 6no. Strategic Policy Committees to be formed in accordance with the S.P.C. Scheme are made in accordance with Circular letter LG10/09 attached.   

Following the local elections, it is necessary for each county council to establish new Strategic Policy Committees in line with the guidelines published by the Department in October 1999 entitled: Strategic Policy Committees Guidelines for establishment and operation and the guidelines set out in Circular Letter LG10/09 attached.  (http://www.environ.ie/en/Publications/LocalGovernment/Administration/FileDownLoad,1951,en.pdf.    These guidelines specify that it is important with SPCs that local authorities adopt and implement an approach which ensures that the various political and other interests represented on the full Council are treated fairly and equitably represented in the SPC system.   Article 18, Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 2001.
