QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh

"To ask the Manager to clarify the present position regarding grants for replacing guttering and rewiring houses for Senior Citizens?"

REPLY:

South Dublin County Council  provides grant assistance for gutter/roof replacement and house re-wiring works under the Housing Aid for Older People Scheme for privately owned homes. All applications received are processed under the Guidelines set down by the Department of  the Environment, Heritage & Local Government..   The maximum grant available is €10,500 in respect of household income up to €30,000 p.a. with a lower level of grant payable in respect of higher income levels up to €65,000 p.a.. The table below shows the level of grant available under each income category .

 The Council has not yet received it's allocation of funding for 2009 from the Department of the Environment,Heritage and Local Government  in respect of  the grant  schemes for older persons and persons with disabilities. This allocation ,when received,will determine the level of grant assistance  which can be approved by the Council in 2009.
