COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF DEVELOPMENT PLAN MEETING

MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
Chapter 1 - Strategy
That the Council directs the Manager, in regard to the Policy Approach to Land Use Zoning and Local Zoning Objectives, that it is the view of the Council, based on the existing availability in the County of serviced land zoned residential, historical trends in house completions during a period of acknowledged house building "boom", and likely overall demand for housing in the County during the period of the next two Development Plans, not to include any proposal for the rezoning of any substantial parcel of land (in excess of 5 hectares) in the Draft Plan.
REPORT:
As suggested in the Motion, it is recommended that the direction of the development plan will be towards supporting and facilitating a more consolidated and sustainable urban form, focusing on the development of existing zoned and serviced lands. It is, however, incumbent on the planning authority to provide suffiicent lands to support the accommodation of the future county population. The focus of this plan is on its six year plan period. Accordingly, it is neither appropriate nor desirable to limit the formulation of an integrated plan policy to in the method put forward in the motion.
Recommendation
That this motion not be adopted
