MOTION: Councillor D. Corrigan

Chapter 7 - Infrastructure

That it shall be a policy objective of this Council to work towards self sufficiency in electricity production, primarily from renewable sources, with specific targets being set to achieve this goal through the identification of sites that will maximise such a strategic objective.

REPORT:

The potential for self sufficiency in electricity production in South Dublin County, primarily from renewable sources, is not known, and would require examination having regard to the renewable energy resources of the county and to any constraints there may be on development of any such resources.

Manager’s Recommendation:

It is recommended that the motion be adopted with amendments as follows:

“That the County Development Plan supports the sustainable development of renewable energy resources in the county with a view to maximising electricity production from renewable sources, and that all potential sources of renewable energy in the county be examined as part of an overall policy to be included in the draft development plan.”
