MOTION: Councillor R. Dowds

Chapter 7 - Infrastructure

That this Council, in supporting and prioritising the development of indigenous, renewable energy resources within South County Dublin, examines the possibility of designating a highland area of our County, outside the areas of greatest scenic beauty, as being suitable for the production of wind energy and that this be incorporated into the new County Development Plan 2010 - 2016.

REPORT:

It is considered appropriate that all potential sources of renewable energy in the County be examined in the interest of sustainability, and that Development Plan policies should promote the sustainable development of such resources.

 Manager’s Recommendation:

It is recommended that the motion be adopted with amendments as follows:

“That this Council, in supporting and prioritising the development of indigenous, renewable energy resources within South County Dublin, includes an objective to examine the possibility of designating a highland area of our County, outside the areas of greatest scenic beauty, as being suitable for the production of wind energy, as part of an overall policy promoting renewable energy to be included in the draft plan.”
