MOTION NO. 19

MOTION: Councillor D. Corrigan

That this Council directs the Manager to specifically define the village settlements of the County into the Development Plan to support and promote the village in line with the definition of urban and town centres and as a strategy for villages to maintain and retain over time their unique heritage and identity.

REPORT:

Chapter 5 of the current Development Plan details the hierarchy of the urban centres within the County and details towns, villages and local centres.  The contents of this chapter will be expanded further to define both urban and rural village settlements within the County.  Urban design policies and objectives will seek to strengthen the unique heritage and identity of existing urban and rural villages.

MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATION:

The Development Plan will contain policies referring to both urban and rural villages strengthened by urban design polices and standards and approved planning principles.
