QUESTION NO.  5

QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh

"To ask the Manager to indicate how long the Kill landfill site will continue and a date when it will no longer be available and to ask what provisions are being made for the future of landfill and to ask the Manager to make a statement on the issue?"

REPLY:

There is current planning permission for the operation of Arthurstown Landfill, Kill, Co. Kildare until December, 2010.

The Dublin Regional Waste Management Plan has set as objectives that a landfill (of up to 10 million tonne capacity) site and a Waste to Energy facility be provided in the region. Fingal County Council are far advanced in the Planning and Waste Licence Application processes for a  proposed landfill in Nevitt, North County Dublin for the Dublin Region. Also at an advanced stage is the development by Dublin City Council of the planned Waste to Energy facility at Poolbeg, which is estimated to be operational in 2012.
