QUESTION NO.  3

QUESTION: Councillor C. Keane

"To ask the Manager why after all the questions and motions put down on the subject of dumping and also leakage from pipe to the rear of Cherryfield Traveller site is it still being allowed to continue. Some action must be taken – and please outline next steps – please see hard copies of photos taken last week which demonstrates the amount of dumping fridges/ tv’s / electrical equipment along with huge amount of general rubbish and leakage from pipe (that I was told was going to be repaired)  also still visible in those photos. (b) to outline what fines have been issued on foot of the CCTV camera being erected at this location? "

REPLY:

To date, the Environmental Services Department has not received any evidence from the CCTV unit operated and monitored by the Housing Department with which to issue fines or pursue prosecutions

While caretaking staff at the site have been monitoring the area and cleaning up the immediate environs of the site, the substantive clean-up of the parkland is being jointly arranged by the Parks and Housing Departments and will be carried out in the coming week.  Additional CCTV is being arranged by the Housing Department to cover existing blind spots and thus facilitate improved monitoring and the clean up is now being timed to coincide with this.  The Anti-Graffiti Team is ready to completely re-paint the exterior walls of the site upon completion of this clean up.

The Housing Department have contacted all residents to advise of their obligations under their Licence Agreements with regard to the proper disposal of domestic refuse and have warned that any residents found to be dumping material may have their licence terminated.

The interceptor pipe relates to a problem with the drainage system on the site which requires a survey and clear out and this is currently being undertaken by the Housing Department also.
