QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh

"To ask the Manager to indicate if the realignment of Greenhills Road will  be postponed due to the curtailment of Government finance as resently announced , also the Limekiln Road Extension?"

REPLY:

South Dublin County Council is currently reviewing its Non-National Roads Construction programme, in conjunction with all Capital Schemes, in light of current national economic circumstances. Funding for Non-National Road Schemes is provided in the main from Development Levies and Government Grants, however both of these sources are challenged at present.

The Department of  Transport Grant Notification for 2009 includes two South Dublin County Council Schemes (Nangor Road and Embankment Road Extension). However the Council has reccently been instructed that any Project over €5m now requires the further specific approval of the Department of Finance.

The Greenhills Road Reconfiguration  (including the Limekiln Road Extension) is one of a number of Capital Schemes affected by these current economic measures. Progress on this scheme will be considered in the future as adequate resources become available.
