SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

MOTION NO. 5
MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe
This committee concerned at rumours of possible delays in the opening of the new stadium, the proposed home of Shamrock Rovers FC calls on the manager to give an updated report on plans and structures he proposes to establish to ensure the smooth operation, and running of the long awaited stadium.
REPORT:
The Council’s new Tallaght Stadium opened as planned on Friday 13th March 2009, when it staged the League of Ireland match between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers. The match was televised live by RTE.
All the necessary emergency services and policing arrangements were in place. The Council worked very closely with all the parties concerned to ensure that the match was staged in a professional manner, meeting the relevant health and safety standards, as well as complying with EUFA (the European Football regulatory body) requirements
The new stadium will accommodate 3,000 spectators initially, and will accommodate double this figure when the second stand is erected as planned during the summer.
While Shamrock Rovers Football Club will have the use of Tallaght Stadium for their home games, South Dublin County Council plans to explore every opportunity to maximise the use of the facilities at the stadium.
