1. Minutes of previous meeting held on 10th September 2008 were noted.
2. Matters arising.
Before replying to this matter B. Coman expressed his sympathy and that of management and staff to committee member Ambrose Shields on the recent tragic death of his daughter.
Committee Chair Cllr King requested a briefing on the issue of levels of anti social behaviour in the County.
B. Coman advised that all resources and efforts of the Council are being directed at pro-social policies and activities and that Community Facilities have a big role to play in fostering participation and inclusion by all age groups within the County. It will also be necessary to achieve maximum usage of existing facilities in an open, accessible and affordable way.
He advised that an analysis of anti – Social behaviour and activities is currently being prepared following which results will be circulated to Committee members.
Following a general discussion to which Cllrs. Cosgrove, Corrigan, Jones, Brophy, King and committee member C. Johnston contributed it was noted that community facilities and access to them is vitally important.
In this context current status of those Sports Complexes (owned by Department Of Education and Science) at Collinstown, Killinarden, Firhouse and Palmerstown was raised as Departmentof Education and Science have indicated they are no longer in a position to provide funding (dormant account funding exhausted) to allow continued operation of community element.
B.Coman advised that both the Council and VEC (who contribute to annual running costs) are currently working with the Department of Education to identify and source funding that will allow at least existing community operations to continue during 2009 albeit with reduced staff.
It was agreed that a letter on behalf of the Committee would be sent to the Department of Education and Science making representations in the strongest possible terms with regard to the need for these facilities to continue to be available to the wider community.
3. Position regarding Community facilities and Sports facilities audit was noted following an update from B. Coman.
4. Presentation by T. McDermott, South Dublin County Local Sports Partnership Coordinator.
