QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr
To ask the Manager to indicate the precise locations and the time of delivery of reverse vending machines in the Tallaght area, to indicate how these systems will operate sustainably and what plans are in place if difficulties arise with their operation?
REPLY:
The contractor providing the reverse vending machines is currently reviewing the rewards scheme in order to ensure their economic sustainability in the context of a major downturn in the market for recyclables. The Environmental Services Department has been in discussions with the provider regarding the further future development of the scheme through the placement of reverse vending kiosks that could be placed in more public & accessible locations. Once agreement is reached on matters such as the type, funding, maintenance etc of such kiosks, the question of suitability and possible locations for their installation will be examined. The provider has agreed that existing reverse vending machines will be maintained until that time.
