Sports Audit Update
REPLY:
Audit of Community, Sports and Arts Facilities
As stipulated by the Department of Environment and Local Government the Audit of Community, Sports and Facilities Audit was to be completed and submitted to the department by 31st December 2008. South Dublin County Council’s information was submitted on the 19th of December 2008
The audit aims to establish the current level of provision
Inform re future investment in facilities based on the outcome of the audit and having regard to identified local needs
To inform grant assistance and investment at national regional and local level
Audit
Coordinated through the Sports & Recreation Office a sub group comprising staff of the Community Services and Parks and Landscape Services was established to gather the required information as outlined by the department. Requirements where as follows:
1) Community Facilities
A Community Facility is defined as “any indoor building or part thereof which allows individuals to engage in active citizenship and where people gather to engage in Voluntary activities of a civic or recreational nature with a view to creating a sense of community”.
Excluded are childcare facilities, schools, health centers, outdoor amenities, hospitals and Libraries

§ Size/Provision/Condition
§ Users
§ Accessibility
2) Sports Facilities
Sport defined as “all forms of physical activity which through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels.”
Facilities to be audited to include:
indoor and outdoor irrespective of ownership and the extent of public access with the exception of schools and other educational institutions.
Will include playing pitches, All Weather Facilities, Golf Courses, Tennis Courts, Sports Halls, Swimming Pools, Health and Fitness, Indoor Bowls, Equestrian Facilities, Skateboard Parks, MUGA’s, Playgrounds.

3) Arts Facilities
An Arts Facility is defined as “Any creative or interpretative expression (whether traditional or Contemporary) in whatever form, and includes in particular Visual Arts, Theatre, Literature, Music, Dance, Opera, Film and Architecture and includes any medium when used for those purposes”
And:
An Arts Facility can be defined as any premises purpose built for or adapted for the use of the arts and which has been publicly funded.
