Tallaght Swimming Pool & Sports Hall

Construction of €17M  project commenced on the 7th March 2005 and completed in August 2006 and officially opened for business to public 13th November 2006.

The facility is operating extremely well and users are increasing all the time and availing fully all the facilities. A Multi-use Games Area  has  been an added feature to the facility.

Brookfield Youth & Community Centre

Construction commenced in November 2004.  The facility is  now operating services from the Centre.

Manager has been appointed .

 

knockmitten Community Centre, Monksfield Clondalkin

Construction commenced November 2004.  The facility was officially opened by the Mayor on 27th June 2006 and has proved a great success since offering a variety of services for the local youth. 

Ballyowen Community Facility Lucan

 A management committee has been formed.  Officially opened April 2006. The following groups have been approved for tenancies todate

·        Lucan Citizens Advice Centre

·        Lucan Home Start

·        Liffey F.M.

·        Yoga Classes

·        Bridge Club

·        County Dublin VEC

County Arts Centre Tallaght

The contract for construction of the new County Arts Centre was signed on 9th Feb 2007 with Townlink Construction Ltd.  The works commenced 19th Feb 07.

The project which has a contract value in excess of €9m was commissioned by the Community Services Dept & developed under the direction of the County Architect.

Project is completed and officially opened on 5th February 2009

New Clondalkin Swimming Pool

Department of Art, Sport and Tourism grant in the sum of €3.8 million approved.  Official sod turning was performed by the Mayor on 24th January 2006.   

Construction is complete and officially opened in June 2008

Recently received a LAMA award

 

Skateboard Facility Lucan

Open for public use. All main works completed and passed by ROSPA.

RAPID Playgrounds

 

Clondalkin Leisure Centre, Corkagh Park – All weather Facility

Officially opened by Mayor on 31st January 2006.

 Under the management of the Sports and Leisure Complex and is fully  booked  at night and week ends.

Lucan Sports & Leisure Centre

Upgrading of central heating and installation of new windows. All works complete.

Jobstown Youth Drop In Centre

The proposal involves the construction of a new single storey building joining Jobstown Community Centre and the JADD Centre as a Youth Drop-in Facility

Part 8 process completed.

St Mark’s Youth & Family Facility

Works will include the refurbishment and extension of existing facility at St. Mark’s Youth & Family Centre and ancillary landscaping.   Refurbishment works consist of :

The Childhood Development Initiative has indicated their intention to locate their administration for an initial 5 year period at this location.

Ballyroan Community Centre

Refurbishment and extension. Part 8 process completed and approved by Council.

Summary of Recreational/Community Facilities South Dublin County

 

South Dublin County Council provides a wide range of recreational/community facilities to the entire community of South DUblin County.  The following is a summary of facilities provided/ and or being provided.

       5 Regional parks and 50 neighbourhood parks.

       Over 4,000 acres of parks and open spaces for active and passive recreation.

       150 playing pitches for Soccer, Gaelic football, Hurling, Rugby, etc., servicing almost 850 teams.  Some 14,000 players use these pitches on a weekly basis.

       An ongoing programme, for the provision of dressing room/changing room facilities in public parks, is being undertaken by the Council.

       A network of playground facilities and MUGAs at both regional and local level have been provided throughout the County and these facilities are being expanded on an annual basis by the Council.

       18 Tennis courts provided at 5 locations – each summer some 1,000 children use these facilities through the Dublin Parks Tennis League.

        2 All-Weather athletic tracks under local club management.

       All-Weather hockey pitch.

        A new Skate Park facility at Griffeen Park Lucan

      11 All-Weather pitches provided in conjunction with the private sector.

       Ireland’s only purpose built baseball facility.

      2 All-Weather multi-use facilities.

        Site for the National Basketball Arena provided by Council.

        The Council’s municipal ‘Pay and Play’ Golf Course was used by over 50,000 golfers annually.

        An Angling facility in a major public park has been provided by the Council.

       Site and grant aid facility has been provided by the Council for a Horse Project which includes equestrian training for disadvantaged youth.

       2 major new Swimming Pools/Sport Complexes costing € 29 million in total.  Annual grant aid to existing swimming facilities is currently being provided by the Council.

       A total of 44 Community Centres, which would include an element of recreational/training activities in many instances, have been provided directly and /or assisted by way of grant/site provision by the Council.

        2 further major Community/Youth Centres have been provided      St Marks Youth and Family Centre

       Numerous Summer Projects are supported by the Council on an annual basis and involve several hundred children.

       The Council’s annual Community/Arts Grants Schemes provide ongoing facilities/support for an extensive range of recreational/community facilities in the County.

        The Council’s Civic Theatre directly provided and supported on an ongoing basis by the Council provides a wide range of community entertainment/workshops. s Centre to be opened September 2008.

 An extensive range of recreational activity for children/juveniles/adults is provided by the Council on an ongoing basis through the County Library Service infrastructure.
