MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

That the Manager arranges for a meeting without delay between the Parks Dept, the Environment Dept and key community representatives in the RAPID areas in Tallaght with a view to establishing a temporary forum to eliminate illegal dumping on green spaces and parks locally.

REPORT:

The Parks and the Environment Departments fully support the establishment of a temporary forum involving local residents and all key stakeholders with a view to eliminating the serious problem of illegal dumping on green spaces and parklands in the RAPID areas in Tallaght. The removal and disposal of dumped waste and junk material from open space areas represents a significant ongoing financial cost to the County Council and has a very negative impact on staff morale, particularly for those involved in repeated and often hazardous cleaning operations. The resources committed annually to these activities could be used for more positive improvements to the public realm and a local forum could provide a useful means of addressing the problem of illegal dumping in the Tallaght area.
