MOTION: Councillor C. King

"That this Committee calls on the Manager to arrange for electrical sockets to be installed in the common areas in all apartment blocks in Russell Square to enable residents to vacume the floors and staircases".

REPORT:

South Dublin County Council is only responsible for the social housing element of Russell Square.  There are 62 apartments where the common hallway is shared between two apartments on each of the upper two floor levels.  The County Architect has reported that the provision of general services sockets in common hallways would be a health and safety risk and therefore cannot be installed.  The common areas are controlled by Landlord's meters and consumption of electricity is the responsibility of  the Council.  It would be impossible to monitor and control safe usage of power points in these common areas.
