MOTION NO. 4

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this Committee discusses serious concerns re illegal dumping in the Dublin Mountains, and in particular in the Killakee area . That a full report on illegal dumping be made available - outlining how many illegal dumps have been dealt with/ discovered in the last two years,  and outline the steps undertaken to eliminate this."

REPORT:

The Environment Department has been involved in a number investigations at this and other locations across the mountains area. These investigations are being carried out in line with the EPAs Code of Practice Guidelines and are at various stages of the process. While the investigations are current and imminent, it is not possible to comment on individual cases as legal proceedings may arise in relation to them however the Council's approach in general has been detailed to the Environment Strategic Policy Committee in recent months and the most recent SPC Report is attached.

The outcome in each of the investigations will see the most environmentally sound remedial action taking place and the intiation of legal proceedings at the highest appropriate levels.
