QUESTION NO. 9
QUESTION: Councillor C. Keane
"To ask the Manager to provide 4 trees - (requested for the first time 10 years ago) at houses along Firhouse Road address 45 Woodbrook Park and neighbouring houses. This is a main road and cars continuously drive up on the green verge there messing it up - if trees were there it would help in preventing this also. I would appreciate if they could be planted shortly – as the request has been made for such a long time?"
REPLY:
Given the enormous number of requests for tree pruning in the Terenure / Rathfarnham electoral area, which has the most mature tree population in South Dublin, the focus of the current Arboricultural Programme is tree pruning. A very limited programme of tree planting has already been committed to and in this context this location will be listed for tree planting as part of the 2009/10 Arboricultural Programme which will be undertaken between November 2009 and March 2010. It is however the experience of the Park Department that the planting of trees and shrubs is of limited effect in deterring parking on grass verges given the necessary spacing requirements between trees. The issue of roadside parking is primarily a matter of control for the Roads Traffic section and subsequent policing by an Garda Siochana.
