EMS (Environmental Management System) report - (not reached at last meeting)

EMS REPORT 4/2/2009

The first meeting with Fraoch, Environmental Consulting, the  agency retained to assist with the implementation of EMS ISO14001 took place 30/10/08. At this meeting an EMS team was established to be Co-ordinator by the Environmental Awareness Officer.

An environmental review of Arthurstown landfill and Deansrath depot took place on 28/11/2008. This was followed by an environmental review of the Environmental Services Department on 09/01/2009. SDCC is currently awaiting the completion of the review document

In addition to the environmental review the following decisions regarding the EMS were decided upon:

• Preliminary EMS awareness training will be provided to all staff in the 3 relevant areas by the Environmental awareness officer on:

• What is EMS
• Benefits of EMS to staff
• Benefits of EMS to Environmental Services
• Level of staff involvement

• An environmental policy for Environmental Services department will be developed

• A team of 5-6 Auditors to be established.

• Bi-monthly meetings with EMS team to be set-up.
