QUESTION NO. 5
QUESTION: Councillor S. Crowe
To ask the Manager in view of the demand for allotments in the South Dublin County Council area, the obvious health and environmental spin offs of such activities, does he have any proposals to encourage the establishment of similar or other schemes in conjuntion with schools and senior citizens clubs in the County?
REPLY:
There are 245 allotments allocated throughout the County as follows:
Facility Location | Total No. of Plots | Size | Cost |
Corkagh Park, Clondalkin | 27 | 100 Sq Mtrs | €40.00 €25.00 OAP |
Mill Lane, Palmerstown | 73 | 120 Sq Mtrs | €48.00 €30.00 OAP |
Friarstown , Bohernabreena | 20 | 100 Sq Mtrs | €40.00 €25.00 OAP |
Friarstown, Bohernabreena | 100 | 120 Sq Mtrs | €48.00 €30.00 OAP |
Friarstown, Bohernabreena | 12 | 250 Sq Mtrs | €100.00 €62.50 OAP |
Tymon Park, Tallaght | 13 | 100 Sq Mtrs | €40.00 €25.00 OAP |
There is a waiting list of approximately 270 at present for allotments.
It is hoped to extend the current programme in the current year. However, this can only be done in the context of available resources and budgetary implications.
Having regard to the establishment of similar or other schemes in conjunction with, and potentially adjacent to, schools and senior citizen clubs, the possibility of the provision of allotments being open to consideration as being acceptable as part of open space requirement/provision in new developments could be considered in the context of the review of the County Development Plan.
