One Small Step Partnership Programme
During the last European Mobility Week, which is an extension of the "In Town, Without My Car! Campaign" and which runs from 16 to 22 September each year, the Council took part in a number of initiatives to promote sustainable travel modes over the course of the whole week. The objective is to facilitate widespread debate on the necessity for changes in urban travel patterns, and in particular the need to cut private car use.
One of the most popular events of the week was the Pedometer Challenge which is part of the "One Small Step" Programme [www.onesmallstep.ie]. Arising from the success of this initiative, the Council has been exploring how it can further advance and support more sustainable travel habits among staff, memebrs, clients, visitors and the general public. It is therefore proposed to recommend to the Strategic Policy Committee that the Council formally joins the One Small Step Partner Programme.
In becoming an official partner of the initiative, the Council will undertake the following:
The following resolution is required:
"That the Transportation Strategic Policy Committee recommends to the Council that South Dublin County Council formally joins the One Small Step Partner Programme"
The recommendation of the Strategic Policy Committee will be listed for consideration at the next meeting of the Council.
