MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

“That the Architects Department explain in detail the rationale behind the lack of pedestrian access and egress in the McUlliam Estate, that he acknowledges that there is a serious problem at this location currently and explains how going forward he proposes to address this.”

REPORT:

Each house / apartment unit in MacUilliam is served by a concrete public footpath immediately outside.  Access to the scheme overall is via the pavement, 2.40m wide, on the northern side of Fortunestown Way which connects with schools, shops and Brookfield, Citywest and Jobstown beyond.  There is no footpath to the southern side of this section of Fortunestown Way as the land to the west belongs to Hickey Properties and that to the east belongs to Kelland Homes.  It is possible to walk from east to west and north to south within the scheme on safe footpaths.  The crossing of the Fortunestown Way is considerably safer following traffic reductions allowed by the opening of the Outer Ring Road.
