MOTION NO.  2

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this Committee once again discusses the deplorable condition of the Whitechurch Shopping Centre – and to ascertain what SDCC can do to ensure it is maintained/upgraded/road surface there repaired etc. and to state the result of the last derelict site examination."

REPORT:

Whitechurch Shopping Centre was inspected by the Area Engineer on 22nd November, 2008.  The car park, footpath and Unit 2 of the shopping centre are considered to be derelict within the definition contained in Section 3 of the Derelict Sites Act, 1990. A Section 11 Notice was served on the owners on 16th January 2009, requesting that they repair the surfact of the car park and replace the paving of the footpath to a good condition, also requesting that Unit 2 be cleaned up and the facade painted.

These Notices are due to expire on 2nd March, 2009, following which a re-inspection will be carried out and if it is found that the works have not been fully completed the owners will be advised that the car park and property are being placed on the Derelict Sites Register and that they will be liable for the annual levy as defined within the legislation.
