QUESTION NO 6.
QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"To ask the Manager to present a tree planting programme for the open space bordered by Elkwood and Knockcullen. This open space is very poorly maintained and could be significantly improved. Can the manager look at replacing the wooden bollards with something more attractive?"
REPLY:
This location will be listed in consideration for tree planting as part of the 2009/2010 Arboricultural Programme. The wooden bollards are in standard use by the Parks Department throughout the county and have proved a most efficient and durable means of preventing unauthorised vehicular access onto public open spaces. They are considered a more attractive alternative to the large boulders which were more commonly utilised for this purpose in the past and in this context, there are no plans to replace those bordering the Elkwood / Knockcullen open space at the present time.
