MOTION NO. 9

MOTION: Councillor D. Corrigan

That the Manager investigates complaints regarding environmental pollution at Behan's Quarry off the N7, including:

(1) silt deposits from the quarry on to the N7 creating dust clouds across the carriageway, and

(2) dust pollution from trucks exiting the quarry where truck loads are not covered by tarpaulin or similar pollution preventing methods resulting in dust clouds across the carriageway.

REPORT:

No complaints were received by the Council prior to the submission of the motion about this matter.  The Environmental Services Department’s Waste Enforcement team has investigated but no breaches of the conditions of the Waste Facility Permit currently in place with the operators of the quarry have occurred.  In addition, the matter has been referred to the Planning Department for investigation but no specific evidence supporting enforcement action has been found to date.
