MOTION NO 6.
MOTION: Councillor M. Ardagh
"That the Manager report on the proposed redevelopment of Beechfield Park, particularly the area adjacent to the pavilion."
REPORT:
Officials from the Parks Department and representatives of Cherryfield Resident’s Association held a site meeting in late July 2008. The following is a summary of matters discussed and actions proposed:
- The Parks Department to reduce the height of the boundary hedge along Beechfield Road by cutting existing concrete posts and cutting the hedge. It is planned to undertake these works as part of the Arboricultural Programme which is ongoing to March 2009.
- The Parks Department to examine the feasibility of installing public lighting along the pedestrian route linking the pavilion with the Beechfield Road entrance.
- The Parks Department to install palisade fencing to close an opening in the hedge to the rear of the pavilion.
- The Parks Department to examine the feasibility of installing palisade fencing to close an opening in the hedge along the laneway to rear of house number 104 Beechfield Road.
- The Parks Department to plant Firethorn (Pyracantha species) along the boundary wall with house number 104 Beechfield Road. The planting is proposed to be carried out as part of the Arboricultural Programme which is ongoing to March 2009.
- The Parks Department to remove a mound of topsoil from beneath boundary trees.
- The Parks Department to provide a tree in acknowledgment of the contribution made by Mr. & Mrs. O’ Byrne to Beechfield Park and the area in general. The planting of this tree is proposed to be carried out in Spring 2009 in conjunction with Cherryfield Resident’s Association.
