MOTION NO. 15
MOTION: Councillor C. Keane
"That this committee discusses the options available/not available for recycling various types of plastic e.g. loose plastic; food trays; plastic bags; etc etc. as it is not accepted anywhere - for recycling and ends up in black bin, which is not conducive to zero waste objective of some households - only certain types of plastic are acceptable in Green bin."
REPORT:
The Council's Ballymount Civic Amenity Facility has three bins provided for plastics:
1 - Bottles only
2 - Soft plastics only i.e. bags, bubble wrap, shrink wrap and plastic packaging - note : No food contaminated containers accepted
3 - Hard Plastics only i.e. Garden furniture, plastic piping etc
The company providing the service to remove/recycle plastic waste streams from the Ballymount Civic Amenity facility carry out on site inspections for contaminated plastic and from that any contaminated loads are rejected.
