QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

To ask the Manager to provide clear and comprehensive instructions via SDCC website and through other media to the public on the matter of dealing with hazardous waste such as used syringes, toxic substances etc and to ensure a quick staff response when isolated reports are brought to the attention of the Council?

REPLY:

There are procedures in place within the Environmental Services Department to deal with dangerous materials and hazardous waste.  Depending on the type of material reported, either the Cleansing Section or the Waste Enforcement Section will respond immediately and make arrangements for the safe disposal of the material.

Arrangements are being made to give out information relating to incident reporting and to promote public awareness of these Emergency arrangements in the coming weeks.
