QUESTION NO 8.

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To ask the Manager if he can make an updated report on discussions with Tallaght Community Arts and Alternative Entertainments regarding their role as "anchor tenants" in the Council's new Art Centre, as indicated in a reply to a Question to the Manager at the July Council meeting? 

REPLY:

The construction of the new County Arts Centre RUA RED, is now completed and is holding the first exhibition featuring a number of pieces from the SDCC In Context 3 Per Cent for Art Programme. An official opening of the facility by the Mayor is being organised for February 2009.

The interviews for the position of Executive Director were held in June 2008 by the Human Resources Department and Ms Karen Philips has been appointed to the post since August 2008

There have been a number of discussions with the proposed two main anchor tenants namely Tallaght Community Arts and Alternative Entertainments regarding the move to the new Centre and a proposal has been put to both Groups on usage and office space.

The Board of Directors, of the Company being formed to manage and operate the facility on behalf of the Council, has been set up and is based on the successful model of the Civic Theatre.
