MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor J. Hannon
"That the ramp located on Firhouse Road West adjacent to Tymon Bawn Community Centre and residential dwellings be removed, and appropriate alternative traffic calming eg traffic island, be put in place."
REPORT:
Traffic Calming Ramps were constructed on Firhouse Road West in early 2000 to calm traffic following representations from Residents Associations and members to facilitate the opening of the Firhouse Road West Extension.
The removal of this ramp would increase the risk of accelerating and braking as the distance between Ard Mhacha / Heather View Road Junction and Firhouse Road West and the next ramp would be excessive.
In order to encourage driving at a constant low speed the placing of ramps at regular intervals is considered good design practice. A Pedestrian Crossing is located approx 50 metres from the ramp at Tymon Bawn Community Centre so a Traffic Island would not be appropriate at this location.
