MOTION NO. 9
MOTION: Councillor C. Keane
"That this committee discusses the current position of the Green Open Space at Willbrook and to ensure that the money allocated in 2008 budget is spend prior to end of year budget i.e. that work commence immediately on this site as requested by Willbrook Lawn Res Association and long overdue. (b) In January 2008 Willbrook Lawn Res assoc. were advised by the Parks Dept that the incorrect root tree was delivered and new trees were required. The trees did not arrive in time for the planting season Autumn 2007 to Spring 2008 and WLRA would like re-assurance that this will happen in 2008/09 planting season and if an approximate date for this could be given? (c) re Green area at either side of entrance to Willbrook Lawn there are some large gaps where grass needs to be replanted – if the roots of weeds there could be removed and grass planted in the bare areas and it would greatly enhance the area.(d) the culvert for the Whitechurch River close to the entrance to Willbrook Stream is very exposed and could result in an accident, especially if children are playing there, If a railing could be erected there to make this safer."
REPORT:
A) Open Space at Willbrook Lawn:
Quotations are currently being sought by the Parks Department for the supply and installation of railings and access gates as per ‘Option B’ as agreed with local residents and at the Terenure – Rathfarnham Area Committee Meeting, dated 13th November 2007.
Upon receipt of the quotations the necessary procurement arrangements will be made by the Parks Department to utilise the agreed Works Programme 2008 budget of €15,000. In conjunction with the installation of the railings, the existing hoardings will be removed and all necessary tree pruning/removal works and landscape re-instatement works will be carried out.
B) Trees:
The required trees will be considered by the Parks Department for planting as part of the 2008/09 Arboricultural Programme.
C) Open space areas at entrance to Willbrook Lawn:
It is proposed to carry out the necessary landscaping works to the open space areas when weather conditions are favorable. This is likely to be during summer 2009.
D) Culvert at Whitechurch River/Willbrook Stream:
The location will be examined and consideration will be given to providing appropriate protection as considered necessary.
