  1. Minutes of meeting of 3rd May 2008.  Proposed by Cllr G. O’Connell, seconded by Cllr Brophy and Agreed.
  1. Matters Arising – No matters arising

 

  1. Reports for the meeting  - Cllr O’Connell raised the issue of the reports for the meeting not being available on CMAS or on Membersnet.  J. Quinlivan, Acting Director of Services stated that the reports were accessible on CMAS since the previous Friday and were also emailed to the Members on the Monday prior to the meeting.  He undertook to investigate the matter to ensure that any difficulties in the system were resolved.
  1. New Members – An Cathaoirleach welcomed Ms. M Kearns who had attended the meeting of the 3rd May as an observer, as a member of the SPC representing the Community Platform.
  1. Climate Change Strategy – A report on Climate Change which included a timetable for the development of a Climate Change Strategy for the County was noted.  An Cathaoirleach welcomed Dr. Gerry Wardell from CODEMA to the meeting.  It had been noted from the above report and from previous reports that the Council would engage with CODEMA to assist in the development of a Climate Change Strategy for the County.  Dr. Wardell gave a presentation which set out the main components of the proposed strategy.

Following questions from Cllrs O’Connell, Murphy, Walsh, McDermott and C. Kiernan, Dr.Wardell responded to the matters raised and the report was noted.

  1. Water Framework Directive (WFD) / Eastern River Basin Development project; (ERBD) - Ms. Amy McDonald from the ERBD gave a presentation on what has been done to date to implement the WFD Directive in Ireland and what is required to be done in the region in the future and how it may be achieved.  An Cathaoirleach thanked Ms. McDonald for her detailed presentation.
  1. Dumping in the Dublin mountains. J. Quinlivan updated the Committee on progress to date. A total of 41 sites have been examined. A further updated report will be presented to the next meeting of the Committee.
  1. A.O.B. - IBAL Survey. Cllr. M. Murphy raised the issue of the recent IBAL survey on litter. J. Quinlivan stated that updates will be given to the Area Committees on a quarterly basis on progress made on litter management, within the framework of the Litter Management Plan, which was agreed at the adoption of the Plan by the Council at its meeting held in May 2008.
