MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

Monday, November 10, 2008

QUESTION NO 2.

QUESTION: Councillor R. Dowds

To ask the Manager in relation to RAPID funding

(a) Will South Dublin County Council continue to match Government funding?

(b) How much funding in total is expected for the next financial year:

(i) For North Clondalkin?

(ii) For Tallaght?

and how does this compare to the current financial year?

REPLY:

a)     The recently launched new RAPID Physical Environment Leverage Funding is the first of a four year programme to invest in RAPID areas around the Physical Environment Strategic Theme. The funding (€860,000) is 50% from DCRAGA and local authorities have been asked for 50% match funding.

b)     Total funding for works to be identified is broken down as follows:

                                           I.      North Clondalkin Physical Environment Leverage Funding, €280,000

II.      West Tallaght Physical Environment Leverage Funding

                                                    Fettercairn     €190,000

                                                    Jobstown        €170,000

                                                     Killinarden      €220,000

The Council will now endeavour to identify matching funding in the context of budget preparations 2009.

Members will be kept informed of progress.

There have been a number of previous schemes with different funding processes operated by RAPID over 2 year cycle programme periods in recent years eg 2005/’06,  2007/ ’08 to cover programmes such as Local Authority Housing Estate Enhancement, Playground Provision and Traffic Enhancement.
