QUESTION: Councillor M. Murphy

To ask the Manager could he provide the figures for Litter Fines issues each of the past 5 years including this year to date?

REPLY:

The number of Litter Fines issued were as follows:

• 2004: 1,179 fines
• 2005: 1,051 fines
• 2006: 680 fines
• 2007: 1,141 fines
• 2008: 2,318 fines (to end Sept)

The introduction of CCTV at vulnerable locations has played a significant role in increasing the level of litter fines issued and it is intended to continue this practice in a bid to reduce litter in the county.  In addition the serving of notices in relation to dumping and graffiti is being prioritised.
