MOTION NO. 5
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That the Committee agress that each roundabout in the area ought to have a name to facilitate visitors seeking directions and to build a sense of community identity and to proceed with such a scheme without delay and without the need of a consultants."
REPORT:
A system is currently in place providing directional signs for commuters (this is in accordance with the DOEHLG’s Traffic Signs Manual). In addition to the directional signage, landmark signs are also sometimes provided. Provision of such signage is of a lower priority than the provision of the standard directional signage. We are currently examining conditions, from a safety and traffic management perspective, as part of the Countywide signage strategy, that would need to prevail, if this type of sign were to be provided, so that there would be a minimal risk of confusing drivers or causing possible unsafe manoeuvres. On completion of the signage strategy recommendations, we would hope to return to the SPC Committee, early in the new year, with a fuller report.
