COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor M. Corr
That this committee calls on the Manager to immediately review the deplorable traffic congestion situation for residents who live on both sides of Phase 3 of the outer ring roads, in Brookfield, Jobstown, Fettercairn and Springfield - to rectify without delay any unnecessary signal shortcomings in order to address the appalling tailbacks being experienced in these areas at peak times.
REPORT:
The traffic flows are being monitored and a new traffic camera has been installed on the route linked to the traffic control centre. The Council will be installing a new signal control system called Mova within the next 4 weeks which will help to reduce delays without the need for regular re-setting of the signal timings. It switches between delay-minimising and capacity-maximising modes, depending on traffic demand.
Once installed the system allocates the appropriate amount of ‘green time’ to each leg of the junction, varying the timings in response to traffic conditions with performance increasing over time.
