MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, October 20, 2008

MOTION NO 19.

MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe

This Committeee calls on the manager to include  as part of any future works and in conjunction wiith local residents the establishment of flower and rock feature in front of the bridge and viaduct  (opposite Killinardan Park ) which has been used as an illegal site and dumping area into the river.

REPORT:

The area of roadside open space fronting Killinarden Park adjacent to the bridge over the Whitestown stream has been the site of regular illegal encampments in recent years. The issue of a floral display/rockery has been reviewed and taking various matters such as future maintenance and road safety requirements into account is not considered appropriate for this location.

However, it would be considered appropriate to secure this area against encroachment by using a low timber knee-rail type timber fence and associated bulb planting which would both enhance the appearance of the open space and help to prevent a recurrence of the illegal encampments and dumping etc. This type of boundary treatment has proved very successful in securing other nearby roadside margins in the Killinarden area and in Jobstown. If there is general agreement regarding this approach, the provision of the fencing at this location can be listed for consideration as part of the 2009 Draft Parks Works Programme.
