MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, October 20, 2008

QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor K. Warren

“To ask the Manager how many fines have been issued by  South Dublin County Council in respect of a violation of by-law “Presenting a waste container for collection with lid not securely closed”, and to list those areas where an alleged breach of the by-law has occurred in regard to this matter, and if he can confirm or deny the suggestion that only certain areas of Tallaght are being pin-pointed for this offence, and that the publication of all of the areas where the offence has occurred would greatly reduce suspicion that only certain areas are being highlighted, and if he will make a statement on the matter.”

REPLY:

To date, 127 notices have been issued under Section 7 (d) of the South Dublin County Council Storage, Presentation and Collection of Household Waste Bye-Laws 2007 in respect of a waste container presented for collection either overloaded, without the lid securely closed or with waste presented at the side or on top of the waste container.

44 of these notices have related to the administrative area of this committee and these have been issued in the following estates: Alderwood, Ard Mor, Bawnlea, Belfry, Brookview, Carrigmore, Daletree, De Selby, Dromcarra, Dunmore, Ellensborough, Fernwood, Fortunestown, Glenshane, Glenview, Hunterswood, Kingswood, Mac Ulliam, Marlfield, Oakdale, Old Court, Parklands, Russell Square, Tamarisk and Tynan Hall.  As is evidenced by this list, there is no "targetting" of any particular area of Tallaght for enforcement of the Bye-Laws.
