QUESTION NO 4.

QUESTION: Councillor C. Brophy

"To ask the Manager to provide an up-to-date report on the progress of the work on the Councils new bowling green in Greenhills and can he specifically outline why work has stopped, when it will recommence, and provide specific details on the type of reinstatement to be carried out of all the area surrounding the new bowling green?"

REPLY:

Works commenced on the construction of the All Weather Bowling Green in Greenhills Park at the end of June. To date a substantial portion of the construction works have been completed inter alia  site clearance, ground excavation and preparation, installation of the bowling green sub base, installation of the drainage system,  installation of the tarmacadam surfacing and installation of the stone boundary walls.

Delay in continuing the construction work has been for the following reasons:

- Unfavorable weather conditions.

- Delay in the manufacture and receipt of the boundary fencing required for installation to the top of the stone boundary walls.

-Required tolerances set out in the specifications for the works not being achieved.

The Parks Department and the Bowling Green Contractor are currently liaising regarding actions necessary to achieve the tolerances required.  It is expected that agreement will be reached shortly following which the Contractor will make arrangements to complete the works.

Upon completion of the construction of the bowling green, re-instatement works will be carried out to all areas impacted upon by the construction works, subject to suitable weather conditions.

Greenhills Community Centre:

- Re-instatement of grass and tarmacadam areas, and car park extension works.

Greenhills Park:

Re-instatement of parkland grass areas, and senior and junior football pitches.
