QUESTION NO. 20

QUESTION: Councillor M. Ardagh

"To ask the Manager for an update on the position in relation to a householder and Bord Gais and the repair by them of broken pipes from the house to the main sewer and to ask when the repair work will be carried out.   (Details Supplied)?"

REPLY:

This problem has been ongoing for some time.  The pipe which is damaged is the private drain which serves households numbered, 124, 126, 128 and 130 Cromwellsfort Road.  As with all private drains, their upkeep, repair and maintenance is the responsibility of the householders connected to it.  Notwithstanding that  the Drainage Maintenance Section has made every effort to be of assistance to these householders and the Area Engineer and Local Area Inspector have in total called to the location on thirteen occasions, have cleared the blockage free of charge on two occasions and have also carried out a CCTV survey to establish what the cause of the problem was.

The Area Engineer has also written to all households (letter dated 23rd May 2007) outlining what the problem is and giving his technical advise on what measures need to be taken to remedy the problem.

The damage to the pipe which was caused by Bord Gais is a matter for the householders to persue with that company as the Drainage Maintenance Section does not have any further resources to deal with the problem which is a private matter.
