QUESTION NO. 13
QUESTION: Councillor C. King
To ask the Manger to outline what degree of success SDCC has had as part of the recent initiatives to tackle illegal dumping in the Dublin Mountains and can he/she make a statement on the matter?
REPLY:
There are covert cameras in place to tackle illegal dumping in some areas of the County including the Dublin Mountains.
This is a trial and may be expanded to other suitable sites depending on the quantity and quality of evidence obtained but will depend on an appropriate costing structure being agreed. The purpose of the trial is to target known areas of illegal dumping but also to examine the quality of evidence produced to develop expertise on best camera angles and locations to produce evidence for use in prosecutions.
So far, three significant pieces of evidence have been yielded which will be used to pursue prosecutions. It is anticipated that the learning process from the trial will improve our success rate in terms of prosecutable evidence.
For operational reasons the exact locations and the number of covert CCTV installations will be closely guarded.
