MOTION NO. 3
MOTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave
Cathaoirleach's Business
"That the Manager discuss with business and shops in Rathfarnham Village a scheme to allow free parking in the area for their staff."
REPORT:
The current Control of Parking Bye Laws define the area where pay and display or permit parking apply and the operational methods for paying for parking. An essential component of a successful system is the fair and consistent enforcement of the bye laws ensuring that the maximum benefit is gained from the limited parking spaces available. Prior to the introduction of Pay and Display in Rathfarnham, a situation existed where all spaces were free but seldom available. It is noted that space is available in the Rathfarnham area away from the Main Street and any better use of these areas by staff of local businesses will be welcome.
It should be stressed however that a Local Authority is not in a position to provide private parking for any individual and are actively encouraging the use of public transport or cycling and walking as the preferred mode of travel to and from their place of employment.
